The Maniax finish up camp

The Memphis Maniax of the XFL recently concluded their first-ever mini-camp this past Saturday afternoon.

Assistant Head Coach Rich McGeorge, who ran camp while Head Coach Kippy Brown concludes his duties on the staff of the Green Bay Packers, was very pleased with what he saw in the inaugural camp.

“I’m very happy with what we accomplished last week,” said McGeorge, the Maniax’ offensive coordinator and offensive line coach. “We put most of the playbook in and the players have processed a great deal of information. We learned a lot and had a chance to see our skilled players run and throw and catch the football.”

“I’m especially pleased with the small number of dropped passes and the good execution in our passing game. Granted, we had just the offense here this week and ran patterns against no defenders, but the timing was good and the execution was sharp,” said McGeorge. “It shows that the players were concentrating and had their minds on getting the work done and done right.”

Quarterbacks Marcus Crandell, Jim Druckenmiller, Craig Whelihan and Beau Morgan were all been impressive. “We’ve got four guys who threw a lot last week and they seemed to be getting sharper with each practice,” said McGeorge. “That should make for some great competition as we get ready for the next camp.”

The Maniax will return to Memphis for the second mini-camp on Dec. 11. That second session will include all 70 players on the Maniax roster.
