Drake Hall, John “Bad Dog” McCormack and Mark Bialek to Handle the Broadcasts

The Memphis Maniax and Rock 103 (WEGR-FM), the club’s official radio broadcast partner, today introduced the announce team for the club’s inaugural season that begins Feb. 4 when the Maniax play at Birmingham.

Popular Rock 103 personalities Drake Hall, John “Bad Dog” McCormack and Mark Bialek will describe all the action as the Maniax begin their 10-game season that runs from Feb. 4 to mid-April.

“We are very pleased to include three of the most popular voices on Rock 103 on our very first broadcast team,” said Maniax General Manager Steve Ehrhart. “We listened to audition tapes from all over the country. There was an extremely high level of interest from some very talented announcers. I listened to numerous tapes that Drake and ‘Bad Dog’ did for us and liked their enthusiasm and the energy that they brought to their broadcast.”

Rock 103/WREC/WOTO Vice President/General Manager Sherri Sawyer echoed Ehrhart’s remarks. “This is another great indication of the partnership that the XFL, the Maniax and Rock 103 have forged together in the past few months. Rock 103 and WREC (AM 600) will play major roles in helping project the Maniax’ message out to fans in the Mid-South.”

Hall, program director at Rock 103 and part of the highly popular afternoon drive time “Drake and Zeke Show,” will call the play-by-play. Hall has been at Rock 103 since 1988. “From listening to the audition tapes, it was obvious to me that Drake is a student of the game of football,” said Ehrhart.

McCormack, one of Memphis’ most popular radio personalities, has been a part of Rock 103’s long-running “Wake-Up Crew” since 1988. He will provide the analysis and color commentary on Maniax broadcasts. “’Bad Dog’ is a great football fan who has a tremendous amount of enthusiasm for the Maniax,” said Ehrhart. “I know that people will enjoy listening to him as much on our games as they do every morning on rock 103.” In addition to the game broadcasts, McCormack also will host a weekly call-in show on WREC with Maniax Head Coach Kippy Brown.

Bialek is sports director at WREC and also does a daily sports report on the “Drake and Zeke Show” on Rock 103. He began at Rock 103/WREC as an intern while a student at the University of Memphis in the late 1980s. He will serve as sideline reporter on the Maniax broadcasts. “This is not just a three-man broadcast team,” said Bialek. “It will really be more like a 40- or 50-person announce team. Our broadcasts will heavily involve the players, coaches, cheerleaders and fans. I’ll talk to a lot of them on the sidelines and try to give the listening audience a more in-depth look at the game.”
