MANIAX BEGIN ONE-A-DAY SCHEDULE
Season Opener Less than Three Weeks Away
Las Vegas, Nev. Jan. 16, 2001

The Memphis Maniax took one step closer to the beginning of their historic XFL opener by scaling practices down to one-a-days this week.

Head Coach Kippy Brown had two-a-day sessions scheduled for both Monday and Tuesday but felt that his team was far enough along that he would change the daily routine to be more like it will during the regular season.

“We’re getting closer to that Birmingham game (Feb. 4) and have preseason scrimmages each of the next two weekends,” said Brown. “Today we ran some scout teams and had a chance to look a little at what San Francisco may throw at us in Saturday’s scrimmage. It’s time to get down to business and I know that the players are focused and looking ahead to the start of the season.”

The Maniax had another spirited practice Tuesday and, for the first time since early in training camp, had everyone available for practice. “It was good to not see anybody in sweats just jogging on the side today,” said Brown. “We’re getting rid of our bumps, bruises and pulls and getting a chance to see everyone work. We need to see that in order to evaluate the 62 guys we have left in camp.”

Memphis will practice again Wednesday and Thursday afternoons in full gear and will taper down to a padless run-through workout on Friday. The Maniax line up against San Francisco on Saturday at noon at Sam Boyd Stadium. The scrimmage is closed to the media and public.
