MANIAX ENTER FINAL 10 DAYS OF TRAINING CAMP
Two Scrimmages Left Before Returning to Memphis
Las Vegas, Nev. Jan. 17, 2001

The Memphis Maniax moved into their final 10 days of training camp Wednesday with a brisk two-hour afternoon workout at Foothill High school in suburban Henderson.

“There are nine days left after today and we have two very important scrimmages ahead of us,” said Head Coach Kippy Brown. “We have to cut our squad from 62 to 45 before we fly back to Memphis and these two scrimmages (Saturday vs. San Francisco and Jan. 26 vs. Los Angeles) will be very important evaluation periods for our players.”

Brown continued to stress preparation as he took his squad through Wednesday’s practice session. “We are trying to settle into a game week schedule,” said Brown, “with morning meetings, a good afternoon practice and evening tape review. Saturday will give us our first real look at game situations with a running clock and a full kicking game. I know the guys are anxious to put on the game uniforms for the first time and play San Francisco.”

For the second straight day, no Maniax players missed practice due to injury. “We lost (tight end) A.J. Ofodile last week, but everyone else is healthy,” continued Brown. “They’re working hard and I’m very pleased with what we have accomplished so far.”
