Maniax Reduce Roster to 56 Players
Club Releases Five Players with One Week of Camp Left

The Memphis Maniax reduced their roster to the XFL-mandated limit of 56 players on Sunday by releasing five players. This is the second of three cutdown dates during training camp. The final cut – which will include 11 players – must be made next weekend after camp breaks on Friday.

The Maniax released punter/kicker Will Brice (Virginia), offensive lineman Eric Schnupp (Miami), running back Basil Mitchell (TCU), wide receiver Keith Crawford (Howard Payne) and defensive lineman Kevin Sluder (Mississippi State).

Brice was in a duel with former University of Tennessee star Jeff Hall for the one kicking slot allowed by the XFL on a team’s 38-man active roster. Mitchell and Crawford have each battled nagging injuries throughout camp and Sluder and Schnupp were victims of depth in the defensive and offensive lines.

The Maniax have five more days of camp prior to returning to Memphis. The club will practice once each day on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and conclude camp with a preseason contest against the Los Angeles Xtreme at Sam Boyd Stadium on Friday (12 p.m. PST).

Memphis opens its inaugural XFL season on Feb. 4 at Birmingham. The club plays host to Las Vegas on Feb. 11 in its historic first home game at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium.

Tickets for that Las Vegas game, as well as the other four home games, can be purchased at the Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium box office or through any Ticketmaster outlet. Season tickets and individual game group tickets can be purchased by calling the Maniax ticket office (901/452-2XFL).
