With a lifetimes worth of experience
at building programs, Dave Arslanian comes to Birmingham to
build his wide-open, explosive brand of football to the Thunderbolts
and the XFL.
We are fortunate to have an offensive innovator like Dave
Arslanian on our staff, head coach Gerry DiNardo said. There
are numerous offensive coaches we could have brought on board
but I believe that none is better to help kick start a program
than Dave.
Arslanian brings 11 years experience as a collegiate head
coach to the Magic City, having served in that capacity for
nine years at Weber State and two years at Utah State. Over
that time he posted a 60-62 overall record, including the
most wins in Weber State coaching history with 53.
Raised in a coaching family, Arslanian spent eight years as
an assistant at Weber State before taking the reins as head
coach. His brother Paul is currently a college coach and his
dad, Sarkis Arslanian was the former head coach at Weber State
and Colorado State, as well as high school teams in Colorado
and Utah.
Bolts fans can take heart that Arslanian is cut from solid
football stock. His father, Coach Sark is a member of the
Utah Sports Hall of Fame, the Weber State Hall of Fame and
the Pop Warner National Hall of Fame. Only 13 coaches in NCAA
history have better records.
One of six children, Arslanian has 17 years head coaching
experience and has the reputation of finding and developing
hidden talent. He successfully recruited and signed Josh Heupel,
who was the runner up for the 2000 Heisman Trophy. Heupel
left Weber State when Arslanian left to take the head coaching
job at Utah State.
Arslanians plans are to install a high-powered vertical passing
game in Birmingham, noting that there wont be any question
that the Thunderbolts will be well-coached by someone who
has a passion for the game beyond the Xs and Os.
