The Birmingham Thunderbolts placed wide receiver Kevin Drake
and defensive end Kendrick Burton on injured reserve Friday,
leaving the team with 54 active players prior to final roster
cutdowns that will be announced Monday.
Nagging hamstring and quad problems over the last couple of
weeks has hampered Drake. The former UAB standout was not
able to dress out for the Thunderbolts final scrimmage of
training camp Wednesday against Chicago.
Burton has been hampered by problems with his calf and lower
leg and has been slowed the last week as well. The former
Alabama star was also limited Wednesday against Chicago.
According to XFL rules, players placed on injured reserve
are not eligible to return to the active roster for four weeks,
so the earliest either Drake or Burton could be activated
would be the Feb. 24 game at Orlando. |
