BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Birmingham Thunderbolts announced a
pair of roster moves Tuesday, acquiring offensive lineman
Tim Conley and placing quarterback Casey Weldon on injured
reserve.
The acquisition of Conley (6-5, 305), a two-time All Big Sky
selection, adds an interesting twist to this weeks game at
Las Vegas because the Outlaws recently waived him. Conley,
who played collegiately at Sacramento State and spent time
with the Seattle Seahawks before joining the XFL, will be
eligible to suit up this weekend when Birmingham travels to
Las Vegas.
Weldon was placed on injured reserve, officially ending his
season. The XFLs second-leading passer was released from
HealthSouth Medical Center today after undergoing surgery
to repair a torn right rotator cuff.
Former Alabama star Jay Barker will step in for Weldon as
the starter. Graham Leigh, who played for current University
of Alabama coach Dennis Franchione at New Mexico, moves up
from the practice squad to back up Barker. The Bolts are expected
to acquire a practice squad quarterback Wednesday.
The Thunderbolts travel to Las Vegas Saturday night looking
to end a three-game losing streak. The game between the Bolts
and Outlaws will be televised by NBC. Kickoff is set for 7
p.m. central time. |
