Conrad “Connie” Kowal, a Chicago sports marketing executive for over 20 years, has been named Vice President/General Manager of the Chicago Enforcers, it was announced today by XFL President Basil DeVito. Kowal replaces Acting General Manager Rich Rose, who will remain with the Enforcers as a consultant. Rose will also continue in his role as a consultant to the XFL.

“Connie brings a great deal of experience working in the Chicago market,” said DeVito. “His background in marketing and public relations, as well as his management skills, make him a great fit for us. His most recent position with The Chicago Motor Speedway makes him familiar with the unique challenges of a start-up as well. Rich Rose has done a superb job over the last few months keeping the Enforcers headed in the right direction and near the top of the league in tickets sold. I'll be glad to have him back at the XFL League Office.”

“The Chicago Enforcers will be in good hands with the addition of Connie Kowal as Vice President and General Manager,” said Rose. “He’s been involved with team administration and sports start-ups, two experiences that will prove invaluable to him in his new role. I have enjoyed the opportunity of working with a great staff here in Chicago and know that Connie will do everything to make it even better.”

Since 1998, Kowal has served as Vice President of Marketing and Broadcasting for The Chicago Motor Speedway. In that position, he helped develop and coordinate the Speedway’s marketing, promotional, broadcasting and sponsorship sales. His efforts helped the first-ever CART race held in the Chicago area attract a sell-out crowd of over 70,000 in 1999.

"I'm very excited to join the Chicago Enforcers and the XFL,” said Kowal. “I'm ready to work with the Enforcers front office staff, Head Coach Ron Meyer and his staff, the Enforcers players and the XFL offices. We plan to deliver all-out football in a fun, entertaining and exciting way for the fans of Chicago.”

Prior to working at the Chicago Motor Speedway, Kowal worked for the Chicago Cubs in a variety of capacities for 13 years from 1985-98. At the Cubs, he served as Director of Special Events as well as Assistant Director of Marketing. He also was the Cubs Director of Minor League Business Operations for five years.

In 1980, Kowal broke into the sports field as the Director of Public Relations for the Chicago Sting soccer team. During his tenure, the Sting captured the North American Soccer League (NASL) Championships in 1981 and 1984.

From 1976-80, Kowal taught Government at Mundelein (Ill.) High School where he also coached baseball, basketball and golf.

A 1974 graduate of Western Illinois University with a degree in Political Science, Kowal was a member of the baseball team at WIU. A life-long Chicago area resident, Kowal and his wife Sally, along with their children Lauren and K.C., reside in Libertyville, Ill.
