Gregory joined the Outlaws on
August 10, 2000, after becoming one of the first XFL
employees earlier in the year. Gregory joined the XFL
Player Personnel department during the spring of 2000,
following five years with the San Diego Chargers
organization. Gregory joined the Chargers staff as a
scout on June 1, 1995, after scouting players for the
National Football Scouting Combine, the Canadian
Football League and the World League of American
Football for the previous nine years.
Gregory scouted colleges in the Southwest region of the
United States for the National Football Scouting Combine
in 1994 after scouting the Northwest region for the
Winnipeg Blue Bombers (1986-90, 92-93) and Edmonton
Eskimos (1993) of the CFL. He also spent two years as a
scout for the San Antonio Riders of the WLAF (1990-91).
During his playing days, Gregory was a linebacker for
two seasons (1974-75) with the Wenatchee (Wash.) Junior
College Knights, before transferring to Portland State
University, where he played outside linebacker and nose
guard in 1976. Gregory continued his collegiate playing
career at Whitworth College in Spokane, Washington, in
1977-78. After graduating from Whitworth in 1979 with a
degree in recreation and minors in physical education
and therapeutic recreation, Gregory served as one of the
teams graduate assistant coaches.
Gregory played six years (1979-85) of semi-professional
football as a linebacker for the Spokane Goldenhawks.
After a brief stint with the NFLs Seattle Seahawks,
he returned to Spokane, spending the last two seasons as
a player-coach. Gregory also coached high school
football for eight years (1986-93) in Washington.
Born on January 15, 1956, Donald Allen Gregory was
raised in Pearl City, Hawaii, then moved as a
sixth-grader to the mainland. He played football,
wrestled and was on the track team for the Russell High
Rustlers in Great Falls, Montana. Don is single and
resides in Las Vegas. |
