Head Coach

The Xtreme turn to the experience of Coach Luginbill to set the standard for the franchise in its fledgling years. For the past five seasons, Coach Lu was head coach of the Amsterdam Admirals of NFL Europe, leading the Admirals to a birth in the World Bowl in his first season (1995). Luginbill also was instrumental in the development of Kurt Warner, the eventual MVP of Super Bowl XXXIV. Warner was the starting quarterback for Luginbill in Amsterdam in 1998.

Coach is also no stranger to Southern California. Luginbill was born in Pomona, California in 1946, and got his start in coaching at Pasedena City College (1968-71 and 1974-77) where he was named National Junior College Coach of the Year.

Coach Lu took over as head coach of San Diego St. from 1989-93 eventually becoming the first coach in SDSU history to record five consecutive winning seasons, posting a 31-25-3 record. In 1991, Luginbill coached San Diego St. to an 8-4-1 record and a berth in the Freedom Bowl.

Luginbill and his wife, Susan, are the parents of 26 year-old twins, a daughter, Kerry, and a son, Tom, who is the quarterback coach for the Xtreme.
