On Thursday, September 28, the Xtreme worked out former UCLA star Tommy Maddox at Long Beach City College. Los Angeles Head Coach, Al Luginbill, liked what he saw in Maddox and made no secret of the fact that he's very much in favor of starting the season with a quarterback who's taken pro snaps in the recent past. The Xtreme will be able to protect a number of players from UCLA, USC and San Diego St. before anyone else gets a shot at them at the XFL's inaugural draft, which will be held on October 28 in Chicago.

After leaving UCLA following his sophomore season, Maddox was a first round draft pick of the Denver Broncos in the 1992 draft. With John Elway sidelined for four weeks due to an injury, Maddox started as a 21 year-old rookie, becoming the youngest QB to start an NFL game in 46 years. 

The Xtreme also worked out former New York Giant wide receiver Thomas Lewis. Like Maddox, Lewis was a first round draft pick, as the Giants selected him 24th overall in 1994. Although a talented receiver, Lewis' NFL career was plagued by knee injuries.

Another college stand out who recently worked out for Los Angeles was former BYU quarterback Steve Sarkisian.

As we're sure you already know, the LA Xtreme travel up to Pac Bell Park to take on the Demons for their first ever game. 

"It's no secret northern Californians and southern Californians tend to see things a bit differently," said Xtreme General Manager J.K. McKay. "That in mind, we expect our rivalry with the Demons to be one of the fiercest in the league and I'm glad to see it get started on right away."

Adding even more fuel to this NoCal/SoCal rivalry - the Xtreme host the Demons on Sunday, April 8th, the final regular season game.
