With the players even more anxious to hit someone in a different color jersey, play between the two division rivals could best be described as “spirited.” With plenty of trash talking from both squads, tempers flared after newly acquired defensive tackle Wilky Bazile delivered a borderline late hit on the Chicago QB. Following the next play, both teams did a bit more than a re-enactment of the Sharks vs. the Jets in West Side Story, with fists flying and a full-fledged slobberknocker underway. After the field was cleared, Tillman and Chicago head coach Ron Meyer decided to cancel the remaining plays in the best interests of both teams. LIGHTNING STRIKES The HITMEN teed it up again a scant four days later on Friday, December 12 when they squared off with the Birmingham Bolts at Showalter Field. The 60-play live scrimmage was punctuated by fine defensive play from both teams, as the Bolts and HITMEN yielded only one touchdown apiece. Joe Aska, Nathan Simmons, and Dino Philyaw continue their fierce battle for the top spot at running back. Each of the ball carriers showed flashes of brilliance during the three 20-play segments. THE FIRST CUT IS THE DEEPEST The HITMEN will have until 8 a.m. CST on Monday, January 15 to reduce their roster to 62 players. Eight players will be released to meet the league-mandated number. SCHEDULE The HITMEN will hold training camp practices each day through January 28 (Sunday – Saturday) at 8:30-10:15 a.m. and 7:30-9:45 p.m. at University High School in Orlando, Fla.
