Press Release 12
Rage Sign Former UCF Kicker Pierce; Two Others
Jan. 16, 2001

The Orlando Rage added former University of Central Florida kicker Charlie Pierce and two other players to its roster on Tuesday. The moves left the Rage with 61 players in camp, one less than the XFL mandated maximum of 62.

Pierce played at UCF from 1993-96. During that time, he hit 46 of 61 field goals and 159 of 163 extra points for 297 points. He holds a litany of UCF records, including career kicking points (297), single season kicking points (89), field goal percentage for a single season (.875, 14-16, 1994) and field goal percentage for a career (.754, 46-61, 1993-96).

Pierce also was UCF’s starting punter for four seasons, averaging close to 40 yards per attempt over his career. He kicked briefly with the Orlando Predators of the Arena Football League in 1997 and went to camp with the Berlin Thunder of NFL-Europe last year.

The Rage also added tight end Cuncho Brown and running back Rob Robertson to the roster.

Brown, 6-4, 271, went to camp with the New Orleans Saints in both 1999 and 2000. He spent time on the Saints practice squad roster in 1999. He played four seasons at Penn State, where he started 22 games. For his career, he caught 41 passes for 482 yards and one touchdown.

Robertson, a fullback, spent two seasons (1998-99) in camp with the Baltimore Ravens. An outstanding blocker, he was a first-team All-Southland Conference fullback as a senior, rushing 84 times for 251 yards and four touchdowns. In three years as a starter, he racked up 723 rushing yards and scored nine touchdowns to go with 372 receiving yards and three more scores.

Orlando, along with the other seven XFL teams, must reduce its roster to 52 on Sunday. The team will then have one more week of training camp before making final cuts to a 45-man squad (38 active, seven-man reserve squad) by January 27. The Rage open the inaugural XFL season against the Chicago Enforcers on Saturday, Feb. 3 in the Florida Citrus Bowl. Single game and season ticket information is available by calling 407-398-RAGE.
