JAY TAYLOR SIGNS WITH NFL’S BUFFALO BILLS

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Orlando’s Jay Taylor, one of the XFL’s top kicking specialists, has signed a free agent contract with the Buffalo Bills of the National Football League.

Taylor, a former West Virginia University star, led the XFL in gross punting with a 42.7 average. His totals included 17 punts inside the 20-yard line and a long punt of 63 yards. He had one punt blocked.

As a field goal kicker, Taylor connected on seven of nine attempts – including all kicks from inside 40-yards. His 78% accuracy was third best in the league behind the 80% success rate of Los Angeles’ Jose Cortez (20 of 25) and Las Vegas’ Paul McCallum (12 of 15). Taylor’s long field goal was 49 yards with the Rage.

Primarily a kicker in college, Taylor will be given an opportunity to do both jobs with Buffalo. He will report Bills later this week for a mini-camp. Taylor is the first Orlando Rage player to sign with a NFL team since the XFL season ended. Several other Rage players are expected to sign this week. In addition, Rage wide receiver Kevin Swayne signed with New York of the Arena Football League. In his first game last week, he caught 12 passes for 157 yards and three touchdowns.
