Notes from the November Mini Camp
November 15 - Part 1

Use Your Head
On day two of its first mini camp the Xtreme donned their helmets for the first time. The Xtreme won’t use helmets and shoulder pads until the complete 70 man roster shows up for the first full squad mini camp the first week of December. The full pads come out January in Vegas for training. The New Year will mean its time to hit somebody and isn’t that the point.

Roster Ch- Ch- Changes
Former Carolina Panther running back Marquette Smith has decided to leave the Xtreme and return home to family in Orlando. Marquette, who owns three group homes for wayward teens, cited personal issues for his decision.

"We are disappointed in his decision," said Al Luginbill, Xtreme Head Coach. "But we honor and respect it while wishing him the best of luck."

Smith was competing with Rashaan Sheehee, Ken Oxendine, Saladin McCullough and others for playing time as Team X’s go to guy at the running back slot.

Smith was replaced today on the roster by running back Chad Levitt. The former Cornell star becomes the only player from the Ivy League on team Xtreme. Levitt last played in the NFL with the Oakland Raiders playing ten games for the silver and black in 1997.

Along with Levitt, former University of Colorado wide-out James Kidd also reported to practice today. Kidd joins nine other receivers including Jermaine Copeland, Jason Shelley, and Tony Hartley vying for precious spots on the Xtreme final 38 man roster.

Former USC lineman Jonathan Himebauch will join the team for workouts Thursday at the Coliseum.

This mini camp, Himebauch will be reunited with USC linemate Chris Brymer. Brymer no doubt is looking forward to some company to watch Saturday’s UCLA-USC game even it is in the Rose Bowl. (Xtreme QB Tommy Maddox-a former Bruin- might be watching the game in a separate room than the two Trojans… more on that Thursday).
