TOUGH TIMES FOR DAMON
Xtreme wide receiver Damon Gibson flew to Chicago Tuesday afternoon to attend the funeral of his father-in-law, Hassan Rasheem. The father of Damon’s wife, Ruq, died Tuesday morning in a Chicago area hospital due to complications from a brain hemorrhage. Raheem had been on life support for three days before passing away at age 48.

“He was a good guy,” said Damon.

“Ruq and him were just beginning to get real close, so she is taking it real hard.”

The Xtreme coaching staff has given Damon permission to take as much time as he needs to mourn his loss with family and friends. Gibson, a former receiver with the Cincinnati Bengals said he plans to be back in Camp X by late Wednesday night. Our prayers are with you and your family, Damon.

THE F STANDS FOR FUN
It’s just mini camp but several Xtreme players couldn’t be more excited to be back on the football field. Two examples on the offense are running back Rashaan Shehee and receiver Jermaine Copeland. Cope, who brought home a national title with University of Tennessee in 1998, is so pumped up, he might want to switch to decaf.

“Ooooooh yeah. I’m more than ready to go,” announced Copeland. “I’ve been off of the field awhile. When you’ve been away you look forward to getting back into that groove.”

Copeland also looks forward to treating the fans to some old fashioned fun.

“I love to have fun. A lot of people overlook the fun in football. I’m here to have fun. It’s going to be a show for the fans. That’s why we’re all here.”

According to running back Rashaan Shehee, you can add the NFL to the list of those who, as Jermaine says, overlook the fun in football. Based on the three seasons he spent with the Kansas City Chiefs, Rashaan looks forward to rediscovering the fun in the game he loves in the XFL.

“Our league is going to be serious but you will still have a chance to have fun. I think the XFL will take the politics out of the game and just let us compete. The XFL is perfect for players like me to give us the opportunity to show we can still play and also have fun doing it.”

Rashaan, Jermaine and the rest if Team Xtreme will be back to having on Thursday at 7am for day two of Camp X.
