December 15 - Part 2

RADIO… RADIO Xtreme General Manager JK McKay, quarterback Tommy Maddox and receiver Damon Dunn made an appearance this afternoon on the Conway and Steckler show on KLSX 97.1 in Los Angeles. The KLSX phone lines were lit up for the 30 minutes while team Xtreme was on the air.

Team Xtreme discussed their new team, Damon Dunn even dropping the rumor that, “former Presidential candidate, Al Gore is actually looking for a spot on our team, now that he needs a job.”

Host Tim Conway shot back, “Great thing about Gore on your team, you could lose 21-17, but he’s still demand a recount.”

“Al Gore created the XFL didn’t he?” said JK McKay.

The KLSX lines weren’t the only ones ringing off the hook. The Xtreme sold 100 season tickets immediately following the team’s time on 97.1

By the way, Monday, December 18 the Xtreme will announce its radio partner for its inaugural season. Any clues to who it may be?

Also on Monday, the Xtreme will introduce its team of Cheerleaders to the media at a press conference at the House of Blues in West Hollywood.

DUNN LOOKING TO DO MORE WITH XTREME
Along with George Jones, the Xtreme offense also got deeper with the recent signing of free agent wide receiver Damon Dunn (that's him on the left, sparring with fellow WR, Jermaine Copeland). A former Stanford stand out, Dunn brings three years of NFL experience tempered with a veterans attitude about his roll in the XFL.

“My perception of this league is it’s an opportunity to play football against good competition and express my talents,” said Dunn. “My job remains the same whether I’m in the NFL, NFL Europe or the XFL. My mission is making plays. That’s the bottom line wherever I’m at.”

The change of scenery might do Damon good, considering he has spent the past two months on a struggling Browns’ team in the cold of Cleveland. Not known for its passing game, the Browns cut Dunn the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. “That’s the business. Time to move on,” said Dunn, “I’m ready to play. I don’t allow my emotions to change from league to league. My mission remains the same.”

Dunn’s mission could also include returning punts and kicks. The former Cardinal is the school’s all-time leader in kickoff returns and kickoff return touchdowns racking up 1, 950 yards and 3 touchdowns during his four year career. Signed as a rookie free agent by Jacksonville out of college in 1998, Gibson has also spent time with the New York Jets and the Berlin Thunder of NFL Europe.

Already impressed with the talent on the Xtreme, ahead is Damon’s scouting report on some of the other Xtreme receivers.

Darnell McDonald:
A big receiver who runs really good outside routes… has the ability to make a play on the ball…

Jermaine Copeland:
Really works well on the inside. An aggressive receiver with great hands who understands the slots like a quarterback. He also understands what it takes to get open…

Damon Gibson:
Plays inside and outside. Has the ability to make big plays in this offense. With the motion off the line its important to have guys who can play inside and outside…
