Press Release 8A
LA Xtreme are on the air with KLSX
Announce one year deal with 97.1 FM (Xtreme cheerleaders make first public appearance) - Part 2

Following the KLSX announcement, the Xtreme Cheerleaders entertained the crowd the way they know best. "We couldn’t be more pleased than to be teamed up with KLSX,” said JK McKay, the Xtreme General Manager. “They bring just the right amount of attitude to our team. We belong to a league with a strong vision that will change the way football is enjoyed by the average fan. That fan will always be our number one concern and we think the choice of KLSX is a good one for our fans.”

Not to be overshadowed, the Xtreme’s cheerleaders also made their first public appearance. The eleven members of the Xtreme’s first cheerleading squad in franchise history survived a process that auditioned 500 women over a two-month period beginning last October.

Dressed in skin-tight XFL outfits made of black-leather, the Xtreme cheerleaders showed their stuff in a brief performancein the Music Hall at the House of Blues. Although together for less than a week, the squad looked comfortable and seems to be already jelling as a team.

The spotlight is not new for this group. Seven of the eleven cheerleaders chosen for the Xtreme’s squad have professional cheerleading experience in either the NFL or the NBA.

However; cheering will not be all that is expected from the Xtreme’s cheerleaders. In contrast to more traditional leagues, in the XFL cheerleaders will pay a much larger roll in the entertainment of fans both at the stadium and on television.

For starters, the Xtreme cheerleading squad consists of just eleven dancers. In contrast to the 25 to 35 cheerleaders most NFL teams carry, the smaller squad will give Xtreme fans a better chance to become familiar with each cheerleader’s individual personality.

Also in line with the XFL’s vision of giving the fan complete access to the game, the Xtreme’s cheerleaders will be miked during the national telecasts of XFL games. They will be encouraged to let the fans know what they have to say in the hopes that eventually several if not all of the cheerleaders will become stars in their own right.

As for the NBC commercials that sarcastically place the XFL Cheerleaders in a locker room practicing “good hygene” in the shower room…

“Hey, we work hard. We dance hard. So of course we wash hard as well,” said Rose Fernandez, an Xtreme Cheerleader.

“Seriously, this is an opportunity of a lifetime. How many leagues have three national TV deals before they have played a game. I can’t wait for the season to begin.”

The Xtreme open its season Sunday, February 4, 2001 against the San Francisco Demons at Pacific Bell Park.

The Xtreme home opener is Saturday, February 10, 2001 against the Chicago Enforcers at the Coliseum.
