How is the XFL different from the NFL? Here is an Xtreme example. Jaime Milanovich, the wife of Scott Milanovich has been due to deliver the couple’s first child (it’s supposed to be a girl) since Monday February 5, 2001. Jaime has yet to deliver their child. With Jaime set to go to into labor any moment the XFL has hired a helicopter that will be parked outside the Coliseum, ready to take Scott to the hospital so that he can be by Jaime’s side for the birth.

“Hey, it’s great to be in a league that takes care of you like that,” said Milanovich “This never would have happened in any other league.”

Milanovich, the first pick in the first XFL Draft, will back-up Xtreme starting quarterback Tommy Maddox this Saturday against the Enforcers.

Among those expected to attend the Xtreme’s first home game are:

- Keyshawn Johnson. Former Trojan star returns to Coliseum to cheer on Xtreme. While at USC, Keyshawn was roommates with Xtreme starting linebacker Errick Herrin.

- Marshall Faulk. The 2000 NFL MVP is on hand to watch his former college coach at San Diego St., Al Luginbill, lead the Xtreme against the Enforcers. Luginbill was the only Division 1-A coach to recruit Faulk as a running back. Faulk was originally slotted as a defensive back.

- Ron Harper. Los Angeles Laker guard has won four NBA Championship rings with Lakers and Bulls.

Xtreme Look To Rebound From Reality
(Team X offense struggles in last second loss to No. Cal rivals)

“We have a rule on this team. You have 24 hours to feel sorry for yourself then you are back at it.”
--Al Luginbill, Xtreme Head Coach

“If we lose another game all season I will be very surprised.”
--Darnell McDonald, Xtreme wide receiver

Highly-touted by many as the favorite to win the first XFL Championship thanks to a seemingly loaded offense, the Xtreme struggled to move the ball consistently in its debut falling 15-13 to the San Francisco Demons in front of a rowdy sell out crowd of 38,000 at Pacific Bell Park last Sunday.

Mike Panusak knocked home a 33 yard field goal as time ran out on the clock to seal the Demons first victory and hand the Xtreme its first loss in team history.

The Xtreme now turn its attention to playing the first pro football game in Los Angeles since the Raiders closed out is stay in the city of angels in a less than spectacular 19-9 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in front of 64, 130 at the Coliseum on December 24, 1994.

The next day, Christmas Day, Los Angeles was without football for the first day of which would turn into of six long years without pro football in LA.

The Xtreme look to return the gift of pro football to the Los Angeles fan this Saturday against the Chicago Enforcers at the Los Angeles Coliseum. Game time is 5p.m.

Like the Xtreme, the Enforcers enter the game also with a record of 0-1. Despite a break through performance by running back John Avery (25 carries fro 157 yards), the Enforcers fell 33-29 to the Orlando Rage in front of 35, 603 at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando.

The Xtreme have already reached its goal of selling 10,000 season tickets and have sold 25,000 tickets for the Enforcers game. Xtreme tickets, priced at $35, $25, and $17 dollars, can be purchased by calling 866-LAXTREME, or Ticketmaster.

Injured Reserve from previous week:

Donnel Day - groin pull - cornerback

Following the Demon game, The Los Angeles Xtreme locker room looked like a group of extras from ER preparing for one of those scenes where everyone seems to come down with something.

The Xtreme suffered seven significant injuries during the Demons game and expect to make several roster changes during the week. The Xtreme will announce its 38-man roster Thursday afternoon.

The Xtreme suffered the most damage up front on the defensive line, four of the Xtreme’s seven lineman were injured in the Demons game.

In the first quarter the Xtreme lost both Curtis Eason (groin pull) and Dave Richie (sprained MCL). Eason would return to see limited action. Richie, who suffered a sprained MCL in his right knee, was lost for the game.

In the third quarter, another defensive end, Reggie Lowe, left for the afternoon with a subluxation of the left shoulder. Short up front due to the casualties, linebacker Rico Mack was forced to play out of position at defensive end to finish out the game.

After the game, Eason was diagnosed with a contusion of the right knee.

Richie, who underwent an MRI on Monday, could end up on the injured reserve list this week. Lowe, who will undergo an MRI on Tuesday, could possibly join him. The Xtreme will look at several players this week to fill those spots, including Donald Broomfield (Clemson) who spent all of training camp with the Xtreme before being released in the final cut.

The Xtreme also took some hits at wide receiver. Darnell MacDonald suffered a contusion of the left rib on his 280-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter. Receivers Latario Rachal (right quad strain) and Todd Doxzon also suffered minor injuries. All three should play this Saturday.

Red Zone, Dead Zone
The Xtreme had several chances to score against the Demons, but managed only 13 points despite being in the red zone six times. Twice, the Xtreme forced and recovered fumbles inside the twenty, but were able to only convert for three points.

That field goal came late in the fourth quarter, with the Xtreme down 12-10, after Juan Long recovered a fumble by receiver Brian Roberson on the Demons 12 yard line. The Xtreme were stopped on three plays and forced to settle for a 25-yard field goal by Jose Cortez. The next drive the Demons went 55 yards on 12 plays to set up game winning field goal.

Offensive Struggle
The Xtreme’s red zone woes underlined the struggles the offense underwent most of the afternoon. The Xtreme ran just four plays from scrimmage in the first quarter, 17 in the first half. The Xtreme did not earn in its first first down in team history until Rashaan Shehee went three yards for a first down with 8:31 remaining in the second quarter.

The Xtreme managed just 11 first downs and 205 total net yards for the game.

The Xtreme ran a spread, pro style offense often spreading four or five wide but managed just 162 yards passing on 15 completions from 27 attempts in the air.

Grounded
Although the Demons often dropped back with five or six defensive backs, the Xtreme were unable to establish a running game. Rashaan Shehee led the Xtreme in rushing with 37 yards on 12 carries averaging 2.8 yards/carry. Shehee’s longest rush of the day was good for 11 yards. Shehee’s back-up, Ken Oxendine carried the ball just once for one yard. Former Oregon star Saladin McCullough spent the week on the practice sqaud.

On the Defensive
Despite four injuries to the defensive line, the Xtreme managed to put good pressure on Demon quarterback Mike Pawalawski, sacking him four times. However, Pawlawski did manage to move the Demon offense, mostly on short screens and dump passes over the middle. Pawlawski completed 31 passes on 47 attempts for 288 of the Demons 334 total yards. The Xtreme allowed just 77 yards on the ground for the game.

The Xtreme have to address its injury issues on the line this week against Chicago. Although banged up, defensive ends Ramondo Stallings and Curtis Eason should play.

The Xtreme will take a look at possibly activating defensive ends Chad Pegues and Eric Johnson, who both spent last week on the Xtreme’s practice squad.

After giving up a touchdown early in the first quarter, the Xtreme kept the Demons out of the end zone for the rest of the afternoon. The Xtreme D also recovered two fumbles inside the Demons red zone.

Ricky Parker recovered the first fumble early in the second quarter on the Demons 8-yard line. The Xtreme were unable to convert when Jose Cortez missed a 29-yard field goal attempt.

Juan Long recovered for second fumble late in the fourth quarter on the Demons 12 yard-line. After three plays, Jose Cortez gave the Xtreme the lead briefly with a 25-yard field goal.

Players to Watch

Tommy Maddox - Quarterback
On his first play from scrimmage as the first quarterback in Xtreme history, Tommy Maddox fumbled on his own 40, the ball was quickly recovered by the Demons’ Eric England, and the Demons promptly went 39 yards on 11 plays to take the lead 6-0.

It was not the beginning Maddox had in mind. The ending wasn’t much better.

With less than eight minutes to go in the game, the Xtreme with the ball on the Demons 23 yard-line, trailing 12-10, Maddox’s pass to Todd Doxzon was picked off by Kaesviharn at the Demons three.

Following a Demon turnover with less than five minutes to play, the Xtreme would get the ball one more time in the Demons red zone, but the Xtreme went three and out, having to settle for a field goal that proved not to be enough to give the Xtreme its first victory.

Maddox went 15-27 for 164 yards with one touchdown and one interception against the Demons. The touchdown was a 28-yard strike in the second quarter to Darnell McDonald for the first touchdown in Xtreme history. The interception, killed an Xtreme scoring opportunity late in the fourth quarter.

Maddox earned the starting job coming out of training camp beating out Scott Milanovich, the first pick in the first ever XFL Draft.

While they are competing for the same job, Maddox and Milanovich have become close friends. In fact, Maddox has been sharing a room with Scott’s father at Milanovich’s home in Seal Beach, while Maddox waits for his family to join him from Dallas, Texas.

Maddox spent last season with the New Jersey Red Dogs of the Arena Football League, finishing fifth in the league in touchdown passes with 65.

Maddox entered the 1992 NFL Draft out of UCLA as a sophomore. Maddox is the only player in Pac-10 history to throw for more than 5,000 yards by his sophomore year.

Three years ago, Maddox’s career appeared over after being released by the Atlanta Falcons. In fact, Maddox has not played in a regular season since 1995 with the New York Giants. In that game, Maddox struggled, completing just 6 of 23 passes for 49 yards and three interceptions in the Giants 17-14 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in front of 74,000 at Giants Stadium. As the New York is known to do, the media butchered Maddox on Sunday. His career has yet to recover.

“I used do dwell on that game all the time,” said Maddox. “I’ve had some time to put that past me now. I enjoy my life. I have two kids a great wife. I don’t dwell anymore. I'm happy with my decisions and I’m really looking forward to playing again right here in L.A.”

Darnell McDonald - Wide Receiver
Big physical receiver who most are scratching their heads over as to why he isn’t in the NFL. Scored first touchdown in Xtreme history on 28-yard pass from Tommy Maddox against the Demons last Sunday. McDonald, who took big hit at the three yard line before finding the end zone, bruised his left rib on the play and was forced to missed the entire second half.

“Scoring the first touchdown? It wasn’t as fun as I thought it would be since he crushed my ribs, but I had enough energy to keep my balance and get in the end zone.”

Jeremaine Copeland - Wide Receiver
Led the Xtreme in receptions in week one making six catches on 59 yards. Cope picked up the slack in the second half with McDonald out with a rib injury. Copeland is looking forward to revealing his touchdown dance called, the X-Spot, which has refused to reveal to the public until this Saturday. The leading receiver in NFL Europe last season, Copeland set pro football record with 19 receptions in one game, a record snapped by the 49ers Terrell Owens last December.

Rashaan Shehee - Running Back
Former Kansas City Chief had rough debut as Xtreme starting running back. Shehee rusehd for 37 yards on 13 carries, 11 yards coming on one rush. Xtreme ran the ball only fifteen times for entire game against Demons, but Shehee is also an excellent threat as a reciever out of the backfield.
