Rage Report
Mini-camp notes day 2

One of the interested spectators at Rage Camp in Day Two was Arena Football League Hall of Fame coach Perry Moss, who most recently coached the Jacksonville Tomcats in the arenafootball2 league…Moss coached the Chicago Bruisers, Detroit Drive and Orlando Predators in Arena Football from 1988-97, getting his teams to five championship games and capturing a World Championship with the Drive in 1991…Moss says the XFL rule on allowing one player in forward motion will be exciting for the game… “It’s going to create a lot of problems for the defense,” Moss says. “It seems to me the linebackers in this game had better be able to run. I have got to believe that XFL games are going to be wild, high-scoring affairs and that’s what the fans love.”

Rage centers Cal Dixon and Chad Bates will have more than a passing interest in this week’s Florida-Florida State game…Dixon was an All-SEC center at Florida (1988-91); while Bates was an All-ACC guard and played on Florida State’s national championship team in 1993…“Being the only two linemen in the mini-camp, we naturally have had an opportunity to have some friendly discussions on the game,” Bates said…The Rage have added wide receiver Kerry Brown to its pre-season mini-camp….The Rage selected Brown from the P.A.S.S. pool to fill the roster spot available when WR Tony Gaiter was signed to the New England Patriots practice squad…Brown played four seasons in the Arena Football League, catching 185 passes for 2,488 yards and 46 touchdowns…Brown also tossed three passes from his wide receiver position, completing two for touchdowns…The Rage spent a good portion of Tuesday’s morning practice on special teams…with no linemen in camp, the team spent time on punts and catching punts… “It’s going to be extremely important for our return men to understand that all punts must be fielded and returned,” Head Coach Galen Hall said. “We have to change the way they think about punts that are coming down inside the 10 yard line.”… Tight end Vince Marrow is the oldest player in the Rage mini-camp (32 years, 3 months), form UCF wide receiver Si Burley is the youngest (23 years, 4 months) is the youngest.
