December mini-camp notes day 1

Coach Galen Hall welcomed 70 players to Monday's workout…it was the first time in team history the Rage have had its entire roster together in one spot…Count center Chad Bates as one Rage player that had more than a passing interest in this week's Heisman Trophy presentation…Bates who played college football at Florida State (1993-96), served as a graduate assistant coach on Bobby Bowden's staff in 1997…His roommate that season? A 25-year-old freshman quarterback named Chris Weinke…Orlando made more than a dozen roster moves since its November mini-camp…the team released wide receivers Gerald Williams (Oklahoma), Kerry Brown (Pacific), and LeRoy Fields (Jackson State)…WR Tony Gaiter (Miami), OL John Fuegill (Maryland) and DE Jonathan Brown all signed with NFL clubs…while WR Mario Bailey, OL Juan Roque (Arizona State) and TE Hayward Clay (Texas A&M) were placed on the refused to report list…the Rage claimed eight players from the P.A.S.S. pool to fill the roster spots, including WR Shannon Culver (Oklahoma State), WR Ty Law (Rice), QB Aaron Garcia (Washington State), TE Billy Woodward (Rutgers), OL Derick Levake (Wisconsin-Whitewater), DE Bill Duff (Tennessee), and DB Brian Hinton (Southeast Missouri)…Garcia played the last seven seasons in the Arena Football League, where he has passed for more than 16,000 yards and 311 touchdowns to rank in the AFL's all-time top five in both categories.
