DEMONS CLAIM DEFENSIVE BACK LEE COLE, WAIVE JOE KAVANAUGH

Feb. 22, 2001

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (February 21, 2001) - San Francisco Head Coach Jim Skipper announced Wednesday that starting strong safety Pete Destefano would not play Sunday against Las Vegas at Pacific Bell Park and the Demons claimed defensive back Lee Cole to provide secondary depth.

Destefano suffered a what was thought to be a mild concussion last Saturday at Memphis, but continued to have problems early this week, forcing him out of the Western Division showdown with the Outlaws. Cole, a former Arizona State and San Jose Sabercats standout, was with San Francisco in training camp, but was waived at the team's final cut.

In addition, offensive tackle Josh Kobdish was placed on injured reserve retroactive to the date of the occurrence of a knee injury that has kept him out of San Francisco's last two games.

To make room on the 45-man roster for Cole, the Demons placed reserve tight end Joe Kavanaugh on waivers. He had been on the practice roster for the first three weeks of the XFL season.

Defensive end Jomo Cousins (ribs), who did not play last week against Memphis, is not expected to return this week against Las Vegas. He was placed on the practice roster last week after starting San Francisco's first two contests.

Skipper also said linebacker Sam Manuel, who has not played in the Demons' first three games with a back injury, is available to be placed on the active roster this week. In addition, tight end Sean Manuel (knee) and center Curtice Macfarlane (knee) also are available to play against Las Vegas.

Tickets are still available for all of San Francisco's four remaining home games and the Demons are selling a four-game ticket package. Tickets can be reserved at 1-866-4-XFL-TIX or at www.all-xfl.com/sanfranciscodemons.
