QB KEVIN MCDOUGAL, DE JERMAINE MILES XFL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

March 6, 2001

STAMFORD, CONN. – The XFL today named Chicago Enforcers QB Kevin McDougal as its Offensive Player of the Week and San Francisco Demons DE Jermaine Miles as its Defensive Player of the Week for week five.

McDougal, making his first start of the season, led Chicago to a 15-13, come-from-behind victory over the West-leading Las Vegas Outlaws on Sunday at Soldier Field. Trailing 13-0 at halftime, McDougal led Chicago to three scoring drives in the final 20 minutes of the game, including an 82-yard, seven play drive with 1:59 left in the game that resulted in the winning touchdown. For the game, McDougal connected on 17-22 passes for 169 yards.

"It's tough for any quarterback to sit on the bench but when you get your chance, you have to got out there and produce, complete some passes and get a win,” McDougal said. “I have to have a lot of confidence in our receivers, so when I got the chance, I went out and let it go. The bottom line for us is not to get the bonus, the bottom line is to win games."

The Demons’ Miles was a thorn in Birmingham’s side throughout a 39-10 blowout on Saturday night at San Francisco’s “Hell Hole,” Pac Bell Park. Miles recorded two quarterback sacks and forced a 15-yard loss and fumble on a backward pass from Casey Weldon to James Bostic, which the Demons’ converted to points in the first half. Miles sparked the Demons defense, which held the Thunderbolts to just 177 total net yards for the game.

“This had to do with preparation on my part, week-long preparation, not just day-before-the-game preparation,” said Miles. “I studied our opponent more and applied myself more this week.”

Others considered for offensive honors were San Francisco QB Pat Barnes and Los Angeles QB Tommy Maddox. Others considered for defensive honors were Los Angeles DE Jamal Duff, Memphis LB Richard Hogans and Chicago CD Dorian Brew.
