XFL ADJUSTS SCHEDULE FOR FINAL WEEKEND: WIDE-OPEN WEST TO BATTLE IT OUT SATURDAY, SECOND EAST SPOT MAY COME DOWN TO FINAL SUNDAY
March 20, 2001

STAMFORD, CONN., (Tuesday, March 20, 2001)– With seven XFL teams all in the hunt for three remaining playoff spots, the XFL today announced a new schedule for the final weekend of the regular season, Saturday, April 7 and Sunday, April 8.

“The way things are looking, the battle for three of the four playoff spots could go down to that last weekend,” said XFL President Basil V. DeVito, Jr. “So with the new schedule, we’re going to settle this four-team battle in the Western Division on Saturday, and do it all in the course of one, three-hour telecast. And then on Sunday, we’re going to find out who will join the Orlando Rage in the playoffs over in the East.”

All four Western Division teams will now be in action on Saturday with the San Francisco Demons-Los Angeles Xtreme match-up, originally scheduled for Sunday, now moved to Saturday. The Memphis Maniax and the Las Vegas Outlaws will also do battle on Saturday night. The West is currently wide-open, with one game separating all four teams as they hunt for the two playoff spots.

The match-up between the Orlando Rage and the Chicago Enforcers, originally scheduled for Saturday night, will now be played on Sunday, immediately following the Eastern showdown between the Birmingham Thunderbolts and the New York/New Jersey Hitmen. Orlando has clinched a playoff spot, but all three other teams are fighting for the other post-season berth.
