DRUCKENMILLER, TROUT HONORED AS XFL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
DRUCK LIGHTS UP FOR 413 YARDS ; INTERCEPTION HIGHLIGHTS BIG DAY FOR TROUT
March 13, 2001

STAMFORD, CONN.  – The XFL today named Memphis Maniax QB Jim Druckenmiller as its Offensive Player of the Week and New York/New Jersey Hitmen S Brad Trout as its Defensive Player of the Week for week six.

Druckenmiller completed 26 of 40 passes for 413 yards and three touchdowns in Memphis' 29-23 win over Chicago Saturday night. "Druck" engineered the winning drive in the game's final 1:55, including the game-winning TD strike in the dying seconds. Druckenmiller also led the team in rushing with 54 yards on six carries after the Maniax lost both starting running back Rashaan Salaam and backup Rafael Cooper to injuries in the first half.

“Offensively, everybody stepped up and got the job done. Our offensive line just gets better and better. They picked up a lot of the blitzes and gave me plenty of time to throw,” said Druckenmiller. “We lost Rashaan and Rafael and Beau (Morgan) showed his versatility by coming in and playing well at running back in the second half. Our entire offense is becoming a more cohesive unit each and every week.”

Trout keyed a Hitmen defense which held the Demons aerial attack under 200 yards passing en route to a 20-12 win at San Francisco’s “Hell Hole.” Trout had a key interception to ice the game, and led the Hitmen in tackles with six (five solo).

" We had our backs against the wall facing such an explosive offense and on their home turf, but the whole team rose to the challenge,” said Trout. “I'm glad that the hard work in practice paid off. I played a sound, fundamental game but was able to make the plays because my teammates did also."

Runner-up for offensive honors was Orlando QB Jeff Brohm, who came back one week after suffering a concussion to throw for two touchdowns and lead the Rage to its sixth straight win. Runner-up for defensive honors was Orlando DT Bill Duff, who had four tackles and two sacks in the win.
