XFL ON UPN MAKES PRIMETIME DEBUT SUNDAY WITH BATTLE OF UNBEATENS AS LAS VEGAS VISITS MEMPHIS
Network Riding High Following Strong Afternoon Showing
February 9, 2001

STAMFORD, CONN., Friday, February 9, 2001 – The XFL on UPN makes its primetime debut Sunday night at 7:00 p.m. (ET) when a pair of unbeaten teams, the Memphis Maniax and the Las Vegas Outlaws, square off at the Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium in Memphis.

The Maniax come off a thrilling 22-20 victory over the Birmingham Thunderbolts, while the Outlaws blanked the New York/New Jersey Hitmen 19-0 in their season opener.

Like the Outlaws and the Maniax, UPN also had a winning opening weekend. The telecast of its XFL curtain raiser last Sunday afternoon, a down-to-the-wire 15-13 win for the San Francisco Demons over the Los Angeles Xtreme, posted a stronger than expected 3.1 national rating to easily surpass previous Sunday ratings for its affiliates in the 4:00 p.m. ET time slot. UPN’s telecast went up against such major sports events as the NFL Pro Bowl, The NHL All-Star Game, two NBA games and the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, and easily eclipsed their viewing audiences among young males, a demographic sought by many advertisers.

Handling the broadcast for UPN on Sunday will be Chris Marlowe, play-by-play; Brian Bosworth (“The Boz”), analyst; and Michael Barkann and Chris Wragge, sideline reporters.

UPN will air an XFL game live at 7:00 p.m. (ET) each Sunday for the remainder of the regular season, and then will carry a playoff game at 7:00 p.m. (ET) on Sunday, April 15.
