Feb. 3, 2000 -- WWF Entertainment chairman
of the board Vince McMahon announces the formation of the XFL.
March 29, 2000 -- NBC becomes a partner in the XFL in
a joint venture with the WWF. June 13, 2000 -- The
Chicago Enforcers become the XFL's first team. July
12, 2000 -- Las Vegas is announced as a charter member of the
XFL.
[ ] Aug. 3, 2000 -- The XFL
introduces its black and red football. Aug. 10, 2000
-- Bob Ackles is announced as Las Vegas general manager, Jim
Criner as coach and Don Gregory as director of player personnel.
Aug. 24, 2000 -- The XFL names the Las Vegas franchise
the Outlaws. Oct. 18, 2000 -- The XFL teams make
their territorial draft selections, and Outlaws season tickets go
on sale. Oct. 28, 2000 -- The first XFL draft is
held. The Outlaws choose quarterback Chuck Clements with their first
pick. Nov. 13, 2000 -- The Outlaws hold a minicamp
at Green Valley High School.
Dec. 10, 2000 -- The Outlaws hold their second
minicamp, this one at Foothill High School. Jan. 3,
2001 -- The Outlaws open training camp. Jan. 6,
2001 -- WWF wrestling stars The Dudley Boyz and The Good Father
help attract about 3,000 fans to a controlled scrimmage at Sam Boyd
Stadium. Feb. 3, 2001 -- The Outlaws defeat the
New York-New Jersey Hitmen in the first game in XFL history, 19-0.
The Outlaws draw a sellout crowd of 30,389 to Sam Boyd Stadium.
Feb. 17, 2001 -- The Outlaws lose for the first time
in their history when Los Angeles kicker Jose Cortez kicks a field
goal on the final play of the game to lift the Xtreme to a 12-9
victory. April 1, 2001 -- The Outlaws lose to San
Francisco and are eliminated from playoff contention. April
7, 2001 -- Las Vegas loses to Memphis in their final regular-season
game. April 21, 2001 -- Los Angeles defeats San
Francisco to win the XFL championship. May 10, 2001
-- The XFL announces it will cease operations. |
