The Ultimate Store for the Ultimate Fan!No pads today, but a sense of urgency filled the air.  The focus was on extending yesterday's QB shootout between Mike Cawley and Jim Ballard for the starting spot, but concluded again today without a clear winner.  Both stepped up their level of play today, and both look to be prepared for Saturday's game against the L.A. Xtreme.  Early on, mistakes and mental lapses caused Coach Criner to become unusually upset, and was quick to let the players know it.

The offense seems to be pretty comfortable with the forward motion, as it was used frequently today.  Offensive Tackle Lonnie Palelei (#66) moved into motion as well quite a bit, and went out for several short passes.  The running backs took more than their fair share of catching short passes over the middle and in the flats as well, so the Outlaws are definitely expecting the Xtreme defense to put heavy pressure on the Outlaws QB.

The defense was very confident, but relaxed.  They expect the Xtreme to stick with their usual 60/40 pass/run mix and stressed defending the pass today.  Coverage still looks good, and the linebackers got quite a bit of coverage work in as well.

Very little special teams work was done today; a couple of kickoffs and field goals were all they had time for.  The coaching staff is concentrating on studying game tapes of the Xtreme, and most of tomorrow will be spent going over more game tapes with the players to develop sound strategies to counter the Xtreme.

INJURY UPDATE
QB Ryan Clement still hopes to return in a week or two, but his trainer says 4-6 weeks is more realistic.  TE Rickey Brady's ankle was firmly taped up, and he said it feels better today.  WR Todd Floyd did not practice today; he said he got pretty bad headaches yesterday during & after practice, remnants of a concussion he suffered last week against Memphis; Floyd said he expects to be ready to go come gametime on Saturday, and just wanted to take a little rest today.  Safety Toby Wright dropped by today; he had a strained ACL that he was rehabbing, and he said that he will be back in practice next week.
